A longstanding tradition at Holy Trinity now in its 57th Season
Bach Vespers Magnificat at Holy Trinity
When and Where
Join us as we visit our neighbors on the west side for this special performance at Holy Trinity, followed by a reception featuring our very own, Rabbi Sarah Reines.
Conducted by Bach Vespers Director Robby Meese, the Magnificat is the first large choral work that Bach composed following his appointment in Leipzig in the spring of 1723. The basis for the work is Mary’s song of praise, reflecting her great love for God, and her solidarity and love for those who are poor. The source of the Magnificat is thought to be modeled on the Song of Hannah in 1 Samuel.
The Sunday evening Bach Vespers service is a longstanding tradition at Holy Trinity now in its 57th Season, offering the community a place to hear the greatest works of Johann Sebastian Bach in the environment for which they were written.
Presented by candlelight in the format of a Lutheran liturgical service of evening prayer, Bach Vespers is guided by the vision of Reverend Timothy Weisman who presides, Bach Vespers Director Robby Meese and Austin Philemon, Director of Music. Pastor Tim’s historically informed liturgy and sermons frame the music selections and Austin’s mastery of the Fritts Opus 16 organ offers a dynamic interpretation of J.S. Bach’s greatest works for organ and keyboard.
